Cantera Psychiatry provides relief from the symptoms of mental illness using ketamine therapy. The clinic administers Spravato, the intranasal form of ketamine to help patients heal from treatment-resistant disorders such as depression and suicidal though
Cantera Psychiatry is led by Dr. Sarah Ansbro, a passionate ally to the LGBTQIA community in San Antonio. She and the team at the health clinic aim to provide a safe environment for people to come to for treatment. By using ketamine alongside other forms of therapy, the team at the clinic provides patients with recovery plans that aim to treat each patient as a whole and not just for their symptoms.
The esketamine nasal spray called Spravato is a safe and effective intranasal form of ketamine, approved by the FDA to treat treatment-resistant depression and major depressive disorder with suicidal thoughts or actions. When combined with oral antidepressants, Spravato is more effective in treating depression than treatment with oral antidepressants alone.
Spravato is currently only available through a restricted distribution system, the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS), developed by the FDA. Cantera Psychiatry is a REMS-certified facility for the administration of Spravato. The nasal spray is administered in a private, safe, physician-monitored environment.
Spravato nasal spray is administered at Cantera Psychiatry in sessions twice a week for at least four weeks. Each session is roughly two hours, allowing for time to monitor and record blood pressure readings.
